An unexpected car accident resulting in injury can have a profound effect on a person’s life. Depending on the severity of the accident, victims may be left with significant medical bills, property damage, and an uncertain outlook on their futures.

At Merrick Brock, PLLC, we have built our practice on helping victims of car wrecks and other negligent accidents in personal injury claims. We recognize that victims of motor vehicle accidents and their families may struggle with college expenses in the aftermath of a crash. To support those in need, we are opening the Survivor Scholarship, a $1,000 opportunity benefiting the students most affected by motor vehicle accidents in higher education. We are currently accepting applications this scholarship cycle until the final due date of [MM/DD/YYYY].

What Your Application Should Include

All students interested in applying for the Survivor Scholarship must answer the following essay prompt in approximately 500-750 words:

Essay Prompt

Describe how your life has been personally impacted by your motor vehicle accident. What have you done already to move forward from the accident, and how has it affected your college studies?

Alongside your essay, please attach proof of enrollment in the form of an acceptance letter, and proof of your GPA in the form of a transcript.

Evaluation Criteria

Our judges will evaluate your response based on how well it aligns with our criteria, as follows:

  • Do you explain the impact–financial or otherwise–that the motor vehicle accident has had on your life?
  • Do you elaborate on how you have responded to the accident and what you have done to move forward?
  • Is your response easily understandable and free of any distracting errors?

Award Amount

$1000 award to one student per college semester

Who Qualifies for the Survivor Scholarship?

We will accept applications only from students who meet all of the criteria listed below:

  • You or someone in your immediate family must have been injured in a car accident within the last five years.
  • You must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • You must be enrolled or planning to enroll in an undergraduate or graduate program within the United States for the Spring 2027 semester.
  • You must be at least 17 years old.
  • You must be a citizen of the United States.
